State aid for films and other audiovisual works

In 2001, the European Commission adopted a Communication which set out the State aid assessment criteria for support for producing films and audiovisual works  (Cinema Comminucation). The validity of these criteria was extended in 2004, 2007 and 2009. In 2012, the Commission launched an online consultation “Assessing state aid for films and audiovisual works” which aimed at revising these criteria.  ACE replied to the consulation and advocated for including the preservation of film heritage through contractual deposit and the use of the funded films for educational and cultural purposes as new assessment criteria for the state aid.

In April 2013, the Commission launched a second consultation round on the revised Cinema Communication. The revised draft covers most of ACE’s demands. The online consultation is open until 28 June 2013.
